This is an album by the American composer/pianist William Allaudin Mathieu, who served as an arranger for orchestras like Stan Kenton and Duke Ellington in the 1960s, and later founded his own label, Cold Mountain Music, in the 1980s. This album was released by William Ackerman on Windham Hill. It features Mathieu's naturalistic post-modernist piano solos, adorned with delicate and beautiful melodies that evoke influences from Erik Satie and Claude Debussy. It was expected to be a successor to George Winston, the flagship artist of the same label. It's a truly wonderful piece of work.
