In 1959 Wayne Shorter joined Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and emerged as one of Miles Davis's best-known musicians, and has since worked as one arm of Miles Davis and in progressive fusion groups such as Weather Report, where he has demonstrated his talents to great effect. This album was released in 1974. The sextet featured the best of Chick Corea, Ron Carter, John McLaughlin, Dave Holland and Michelin Prell. The title track A1/B1, with its organic sounds dancing as if expressing the changes of nature, and B2, an emotionally rich cover of 'Vera Cruz' from Milton Nascimento's 1969 masterpiece 'Courage', are all excellent examples of the natural atmosphere and spiritual orientation that runs throughout the album. A masterpiece that is simply wonderful. The avant-electric tune on B3 is also highly recommended.
