Wayne Shorter joined Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in 1959 and emerged as one of Miles Davis's best-known musicians, and later worked as one arm of Miles Davis and in progressive fusion groups such as Weather Report, where he showed his talent to great effect. This album was released in 1974. Recorded in 1960, when he was just 27 years old, it was not released until 1974. Quartet with Art Blakey (dr), Ceder Walton (p) and Bob Cranshaw (b). A rare recording of the young Shorter from the Jazz Messengers era elegantly taking the lead. The crisp sound quality is also very powerful.
