A 1978 release from American trumpeter Woody Shaw, who performed with Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, the Horace Silver Quintet, the Joe Henderson Quintet, and many others, while also leaving behind a wealth of remarkable recordings as a leader. This album features a stellar quintet with Carter Jefferson (ts, ss), Onaje Allan Gumbs (p), Clint Houston (b), and Victor Lewis (ds), capturing their live performance at the Village Vanguard in New York that same year. From the opening track A1, where a striking theme rides over a Latin/Brazilian-flavored rhythm section, the album showcases Shaw at his finest — a brilliant set that reaffirms why he remains one of the true masters of modern mainstream jazz.

A2: In a Capriconian Way
