A 1981 release by American trumpeter Woody Shaw, who appeared in sessions with Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, the Horace Silver Quintet, the Joe Henderson Quintet, and many other groups, while also leaving behind a string of masterpieces under his own name. Featuring Gary Bartz (alto sax), Steve Turre (trombone), Mulgrew Miller (piano), Stafford James (bass), and Tony Reedus (drums). Standout cuts include A3, a breezy, fast-moving take on a Cole Porter score, and B3, a groovy, sidewinding blues-jazz piece co-written by Shaw and Ronnie Matthews. Throughout the album, Shaw’s lustrous, soaring trumpet work is simply superb.
