This is an album released in 1981 by Woody Shaw, an American trumpeter who has participated in sessions with Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Horace Silver Quintet, Joe Henderson Quintet, and many other groups, and has also recorded many masterpieces with his own group, and AACM member Anthony Braxton, an American reed player and pianist who represents the free jazz/avant-garde, released this album in 1981. Cecil McBee (b), Arthur Blythe (as), Muhal Richard Abrams (p), Joe Chambers (ds), and Vctor Lewis (ds) make up a rather unusual lineup, and they play wonderfully with a smooth groove that is not overly avant-garde but is in tune with Shaw's sensibilities. Recommended.
