Japanese saxophonist Yasuaki Shimizu, who has been a prominent figure in Japan’s jazz scene since the mid-1970s and has continuously explored new musical frontiers throughout the changing times, finally releases Kiren—a collection of tracks recorded in 1984 but left unreleased until now, 38 years later. Following his breakthrough 1982 album Kakashi and the final release by Mariah, Utakata no Hibi, this album captures Shimizu at his most energetic and experimental, offering a rare glimpse into his bold sound production during a period of creative awakening. The liner notes were written by me, Chee Shimizu—I hope you'll enjoy reading them alongside the music. This clear vinyl edition was specially produced for the recent U.S. and Canada tour by Yasuaki Shimizu + Rei Kunimoto.
