This album was released in 1980 as the fourteenth volume in Victor's "1500 Contemporary Japanese Music Masterpieces" series, and contains four works by Yuji Takahashi, a contemporary musician/composer/pianist who studied music theory under Iannis Xenakis and is active worldwide along with Toshi Ichiyanagi and Toru Takemitsu. A1 "Chromamorph No. 2 for Piano" is a piano solo by Takahashi, A2 "Rosas 1 1/2" is a violin solo by Paul Zukofsky, A3 "Six Elements for Four Violins" is a quartet for four violins, and B1 "Tamaogi" is a piece for five wind and percussion instruments with chorus. B1 "Tamaogi" is a theater piece with five wind and percussion instruments and a chorus. Both are exciting compositions that show the avant-garde attitude toward composition that I learned from Xenakis, but the choral piece "Tamaogi" on the full B-side is especially wonderful, shaking the depths of the Japanese soul with its spellbinding world. This is a must listen for those who like experimental music and free music.
A3: 6 Elements
