This album is by Gerd Zacher, a German organist who studied under the renowned Olivier Messiaen, a direct descendant of the master Marcel Dupré, in the early 1950s, and who later became a leading figure in contemporary music performance. Track A1 features a composition by the American composer Charles Ives, written when he was just 17 years old. Tracks A2/B1 showcase works from 1968 by the pioneer of ambient music, Erik Satie. Of particular note is track B2 by the Chilean composer Juan Allende-Blin. Inspired by a poem quoting a passage from the world-famous novelist Franz Kafka, written by the German poet Else Lasker-Schuler, the piece juxtaposes the experimental sounds of the organ used in religious music with the hand-turned organ used in street performances. The Japanese edition features artwork by Kosuke Sugiura in silk screen print.
