This is a 1990 album by the American saxophonist Albert Ayler, who gained recognition as a pioneer of avant-garde jazz in 1960s New York. The A-side features live recordings from a 1964 performance at the Montmartre Club in Copenhagen, Denmark, with a quartet consisting of Don Cherry on trumpet, Gary Peacock on bass, and Sunny Murray on drums. On the B-side, you'll find recordings from the 1966 Berlin Jazz Festival, where Albert Ayler performed with a quintet including Donald Ayler on trumpet, Michel Sampson on violin, Bill Folwell on bass, and Beaver Harris on drums. Both sides showcase Ayler's iconic compositions, and it's especially enjoyable to hear the performances by the young Don Cherry and Gary Peacock on the A-side.
