Recorded in 1975 by Atrium Musicae de Madrid, an early music ensemble formed in 1964 by Gregorio Paniagua, the Madrid-born early music performer and leading scholar in the field.
The group also featured members such as his younger brother Luis Paniagua—one of the key figures in the Spanish contemporary / new age scene, known for reinterpreting Arabic and Mediterranean classical traditions through a modern musical lens—as well as Eduardo Paniagua. On this remarkable work, Paniagua approaches the tarantella, the traditional Italian dance form, from his unique perspective not only as a musicologist but also as a trained physician. Through the filter of Andalusian folklore, one of his central areas of research, he transforms the material into a highly original sound world. This is the Japanese pressing released by Victor Japan in 1983, issued on Super Vinyl.
