American guitarist Barney Kessel, who was involved in many projects as a session musician since the 1940s and left numerous works on Contemporary and Savoy in the 1950s, released this album in 1965 on his short-lived Emerald label. It features a recording of a live performance at Hollywood jazz club P.J.'s that same year, with a trio comprising Jerry Scheff (bass) and Frank Capp (drums). The album includes renditions of his original scores, standards, bossa nova, and Johnny Mandel's masterpieces, all performed with a pleasant and engaging sound. Although Kessel is said to be a direct descendant of Charlie Christian's guitar style, his playing is also reminiscent of Gabor Szabo's wonderful guitar work. This high-quality Japanese edition was released as a limited edition in 1996 as part of Venus Records’ "Hyper Magnum Sound LP Collection" series.
