This album was featured in the first edition of the guidebook Obscure Sound. Released in 1979, it is the work of Bernie Krause, an electronic music and field recording artist who, alongside Paul Beaver, was active as a synthesizer demonstrator since the early days of the instrument and left behind a number of seminal works. A concept album inspired by L. Sprague de Camp's novel Citadels of Mystery, it presents spacious and richly textured ethnic jazz, incorporating elements of traditional music from various countries such as Peru, Brazil, Haiti, and Zimbabwe in each track. The sound quality is exceptional—so vivid that it conjures entire landscapes when you close your eyes. This is the half-speed master recording edition by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab.
