Italian singer Caterina Valente performs with the Count Basie Orchestra, arranged and produced by Thad Jones, on this 1986 release. Curt Cress (dr), Milan Pilar (b) and many other contemporary jazz musicians from Europe also participated. The gorgeous orchestral sound and Caterina Valente's expressive, slightly husky vocals make for a beautiful orchestral jazz piece. The exhilaration of B8, scored by Baden Powell and Vinicius de Morales, which develops from swinging bossa to gorgeous big band jazz, is great, but I recommend B6/B7, which have a wonderful balance between atmospheric vocals and orchestra.
