The American saxophonist Charlie Mariano, who has been active since the 1950s and has played with many musicians as well as with German and Indian musicians, released his first album under the Mariano name on the new age label Instution in 1987, featuring Mike Herting and Paul Shigehara. It is a work that develops from a song that contains ethnic sentiments, which is one of Charlie Mariano's true strengths, to fusion with an urban flavor, and even a new age track that boldly introduces electronics. With Mike Herting's synth work creating a profound space in the background, Mariano's saxophone and Shigehara's guitar create an ethereal sounds. This is an ambience that you won't hear in other works. Highly recommended.
