Sakai Chikuho and Sakai Shodo, who began playing the shakuhachi at a young age under their father, the shakuhachi master Sakai Chikusen, and mastered the style in their late teens, have recorded performances of “Chikurai” Gosho and “Taiwa Godai”, which inspired contemporary musician Moroi Makoto to study contemporary shakuhachi playing. The B-side features a performance of “Mukaizireibo” arranged by the master Sakai Chikusen, which shows how “Taiwa Godai” is based on this piece but also organically confronts it.
