Dumisani Abraham Maraire
The African Mbira : Music of the Shona People of Rhodesia
Nonesuch Explorer Series (US) 1971
H-72043 (LP) w/company inner sleeve, Japanese insert.
sleeve : EX+(very slightly color-faded, still good.)
media : EX/EX(some very slightly hairlines that does not affect to sounds.)

This album was released in 1971 from the Explorer Series of Nonesuch, a prestigious American label that has released many high quality works in a wide range of fields from folk music to contemporary music, and features an mbira performance by Dumisani Abraham Maraire, the inheritor of traditional music from the Shona tribe of Zimbabwe. The mbira (thumb piano) is equipped with a large circular reverberating plate to amplify the sound, and Mkosana Arther Maraire plays a maracas called hosho, which is made of gourds. The music is indigenous, yet beautiful and full of a sense of coolness, warmly enveloping the sound field with the chant chorus. I recommend the whole album.
