This album was released in 1978 by the Ensemble Nippponia, which consists of composers and performers of pure Japanese music from different schools. It is a very interesting attempt to play folklore from South America such as Argentina, Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay with Japanese instruments such as shakuhachi, koto, biwa, Nohkan and shinobue. It is interesting to note that South American Indians have many things in common with the Far East Asian peoples of Japan and China, such as the fact that they have the same Mongolian spots, and that they speak a language in which consonants and vowels are closely related, and that they may have been members of the same family tens of thousands of years ago. It is very interesting to see how the arrangements and performances are based on that kind of idea.
