Pianist/drummer Errol Parker, a former native of French Algeria, made his debut in 1960 after moving to Paris at the age of 18, composed a hit song in France in 1964, and later contributed to the French jazz scene by running his own jazz club. The album was released in 1985 and was recorded live at a concert held in the same year with a tentet of nine musicians, including drummer Steve Coleman, who has also released albums with Mal Waldron and Dave Holland. The rhythm section and gorgeous horn ensemble, with strong African, Caribbean, Latin, and Brazilian elements, present an interesting work of danceable combo jazz with a unique flavor that is a perfect blend of old jazz and free jazz. It's cool.
