This is the 1988 debut album by German pianist and free improviser Georg Graewe, who has collaborated with many renowned musicians such as Anthony Braxton, Evan Parker, and Barre Phillips. The album features six piano etudes recorded at FMP Studio in Berlin. Track A1 features gradually evolving minimalistic repeated notes reminiscent of Satoshi Sato’s Hymn for the Sun, while the unconventional compositions, heavy on free improvisation, are in line with the style of Anthony Braxton. The artwork is also outstanding.
