This is a live album released in 1981 by Canadian pianist Gil Evans, who was one arm of Miles Davis' orchestra in the old days and later led his own group to fame as one of the leading jazz orchestras. This is a live recording of a concert held at The Public Theater in New York City in 1980. The album features a number of musicians including Masaaki Kikuchi, Billy Cobham, Arthur Blythe, Hannibal Marvin Peterson, and George Lewis, among others, and features Evans' electric piano and Kikuchi's synthesizers, and a thick ensemble of wind instruments. A1 is a floaty, groovy arrangement of Jimi Hendrix's "Stone Free" that runs close to 14 minutes. Highly recommended. This is the original Japanese release.
