This is a recording session album by Herbie Hancock, one of the greatest jazz pianists and composers of all time, at CBS Sony Studios in Tokyo, Japan in 1978. Support members at the time of his visit to Japan, Webster Lewis, Alphonse Mouzon, Paul Jackson, Ray Obiedo, Bennie Maupin, and Bill Summers, participated in the recording session. The group performs the historic songs "Butterfly," "Shiftless Shuffle," and "I Tought It Was You" with completely different arrangements and compositions than on the album. The B-side "I Tought It Was You," in particular, is over 15 minutes long and features a lot of vocoder and groovy interplay, while the A1 "Butterfly" is a great mix of mellow and funky with a fast and furious arrangement. The sound quality is also excellent, with the advanced Master Sound specification developed by CBS/Sony, and has a crisp and clear sound not found on overseas recordings.
