A very hard to find record has just arrived. This album was released in 1987 by John Elder, a senior scientist at Scott Station, an Antarctic research base in New Zealand, who also worked as an ambient music composer and writer. Elder himself played keyboards, piano, trumpet, and cornet, and also created the tape collage and effects. The theme seems to be urban abandoned buildings and fallen people, and the compositions and sound production are cinematic, with an atmosphere of urban decadence, but also very beautiful. This is a wonderful work that deserves to be called the pinnacle of Australian experimental ambient. Highly recommended.
