John Tavener, a British composer who has been active since the early 1970s and has composed a number of compositions with a focus on Celtic folk and religious music, produced this 1984 album featuring The Tails Scholars, a British choral group specializing in Renaissance church music. The album was released in 1984. The album includes "Ikon of Light," a composition inspired by the medieval Orthodox theologian/mystic Simeon, "Funeral Ikos," based on a funeral text in Greek, and "The lamb" by William Blake. All of them are quite religious in nature, and the endlessly beautiful chorus by The Tails Scholars, a mixture of men and women, echoes sacredly in this holy spiritual work. It contains a lot of overtones. (Chee)
