This is an album of Egyptian traditional music released by Ocora, one of the best labels in Europe that produces many field recordings of folk music and local music from all over the world. It was recorded live at the Music Ouverte festival held at Chateau Baron in 1976. The music is performed by Les Musiciens du Nil and includes classical Arab music called Taqsim, Ya faraoule, which consists of improvisation and singing starting with popular themes and rhythms, pure instrumental pieces approximating the dance music of Mizmar Orchestra, and the music of the mid-11th century. instrumental pieces, and music that was introduced from Tunisia to Egypt and Libya in the mid-11th century, etc. The music is inscribed in very vivid and high quality sound.
