Mario Bertoncini
Cifre / Four Systems / Cartridge Music
Edition RZ (Germany) 1989
ED. RZ 1002 (LP)
sleeve : EX(TEOC, wear on corner.)
media : EX-/EX(some slightly surface noises caused by slightly hairlines.)
This album was released in 1989 by Mario Bertoncini, an Italian composer/pianist who also worked as a member of Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. The A-side features two versions of "Cifre" for piano, plus "Four Systems" composed by Earle Brown, and the B-side features "Cartridge Music" composed by John Cage. The three tracks on side A, in which multiple prepared pianos are played like percussion and stringed instruments, have a radical orientation that anticipates noise music, and the rough sound of side B, in which the sound is collected and edited/processed through a record player's cartridge, is intensely avant-garde.
