This album of folk music from the Indonesian island of Java was released in 1976 by Lyrichord, an American label that has released many locally recorded works of folk music from around the world. Recorded locally in 1974 by Doreen Powers. side A is from Yogyakarta, a center of traditional arts and home to much historical heritage, and features a small gamelan performance and mixed gender singing, slightly different from the Balinese style. B1 is a classical court dance music called "Gending Anglirmendung," which is somewhat influence to Don Cherry. B2 is also classical music with songs and a small gamelan orchestra. Both are very slow-paced and have a ritualistic atmosphere.
