This is a 1960 leader album by Rene Thomas, a Belgian guitarist who has been active since the 1950s and has played on sessions with many musicians including Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Jimmy Smith, and Sonny Criss. This album was recorded in New York in the same year with a quintet of J.R. Monterose (ts), Hod O'Brien (p), Albert Heath (ds) and Teddy Kotick (b). The quintet's performance is cool atmosphere throughout, but A2, a moody rendition of a standard number composed by Jimmy Van Heusen in 1944 and performed by Bill Evans and many other musicians, is a masterpiece. I also recommend B1, a Miles Davis classic. This is the French reissue released in 1982.
