The Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble was formed with German composer Hartmut Geerken, who was working at the Cairo branch of the Goethe Institute in the late 60's and early 70's. The group left an album "Heliopolis" in 1970, and also played with San The Cairo Jazz Band, led by drummer Salah Ragab, was a pioneer of jazz in Egypt, and performed with San Ra Arkestra. The band's dramatic and mysterious ethno-jazz style, which strongly reflects the style of traditional Egyptian music under the influence of Islamic culture, is very appealing. The jacket is very elaborate, with a deformed jacket that becomes a pyramid-shaped object when standing up.
