This is a compilation album of the recordings of "Okinawa Folk Village", a group of folk musicians who were active in Okinawa in the early 70's when the island was returned to Japan. All the artists are university students or young people who continue their musical activities in Okinawa. According to the liner notes, producer Takemune Masuda called for this album, and radio/TV stations and professional musicians/engineers agreed to produce it. Masayoshi Takanaka, Rei Oara and Hiro Tsunod are the backing musicians. The songs range from protest-folk songs about the current situation in Okinawa to laid-back folk songs about everyday life, and it's great to hear each of them expressing themselves in their own way. The songs featuring Masayoshi Takanaka, Rei Ohara and Hiro Tsunoda are excellent, with A1 starting off as a folk guitar narrative that gradually builds up into a throbbing psychedelic rock song, and B6, with its rough percussion rhythm and vocals that you can't help but groove to.
A1: 佐渡山豊 "どうちゅむにい"
B6: 魔夜中しんや "わったあ島うちなあ"
