Wayne Johnson Trio
Grasshopper
ITI Records (US) 1983
JL 005 (LP)
sleeve: VG+(CC,RW,TEOC,fading in some areas)
media: VG+/VG+(light crackling in some areas)
This is a 1983 leader album by jazz guitarist Wayne Johnson, who also participated in The Manhattan Transfer's Grammy Award-winning work. It's a trio effort featuring Bill Berg (dr) and Jimmy Johnson (b). The album features mellow jazz with a beautiful singing bass solo reminiscent of Mark Egan and rounded, soft-touch guitar on A4, and the lengthy track B2, which starts with an elegant guitar performance in a tranquil atmosphere, then transitions into an emotional development with surging feelings, before returning to a beautiful soundscape. The entire album is filled with sophisticated arrangements and crystal-clear sound, characteristic of new age fusion in the vein of the Pat Metheny Group. The record itself is relatively clean, but please note that there is some light crackling.
A4: Marina
B2: Pilgrimage of a Thousand Days
