This analog release marks the debut of the label run by Basso, based in Hamburg, Germany, under his Growing Bin Records imprint. It features the long-lost second album by Merge, an obscure German group led by guitarist/keyboardist Jo Lienen, originally recorded in 1994. Their first album, Exchange, was self-released in 1989 on a private label and has since gained cult status among discerning listeners for its exceptionally high quality. Much like its predecessor, this second album delivers a masterpiece of deep esoteric jazz infused with ethnic and ambient elements—crystal-clear, wet and mellow tones, and delicately floating sonic particles that envelop the space in a soft, immersive atmosphere. Highly recommended.
