A masterpiece album released in 1976 by Japanese contemporary composer Jō Kondō, who has created over 150 works since his debut in 1968 with "Monologue and Five Fragments." The title track, A1, is a string quartet for violin, viola, and cello, applying the rules of "Linear Music," which was published in the same year, using a different method. Fragments of ascending and descending sustained notes are arranged, interspersed with cowbell strikes. A2 is a condensed version of "Visual Rhythm Method," composed in 1975, for piano solo, performed by Aki Takahashi. B1 is musique concrète with layered sustained clarinet notes over tape edits of insect and bird calls, children's voices, crowd sounds, and electronic sounds. B2 was composed for flute and piano, clearly demonstrating Jō Kondō's basic formal concept of "Form and Shadow."
