This album was released in 1975 by The Jazz Composer's Orchestra, a group formed in 1965 by Carla Bley and Michael Mantler to pursue orchestral avant-jazz. The Jazz Composer's Orchestra has released some masterpieces featuring artists such as Don Cherry, Roswell Rudd, Clifford Thornton and Grachan Moncur III, but this album features Chicago-based violinist Leroy Jenkins, one of the core members of the AACM and an outstanding performer in many famous sessions, as the main act, and includes recorded live tracks at Wollman Auditorium in Colombia University in New York. The kaleidoscopic soundworld is superb, with AACM members such as Anthony Braxton, Leo Smith and Charles Shaw, as well as Dewey Redman, Sirone, Joseph Bowie and many other musicians, and a beautiful ensemble that can be heard in between the chaos of free improvisation, where sounds swirl like chaos.
