Reflejos de la Noche

This is an album released in 1988 by the Mexican composer Mario Lavista, who formed the improvisational group Quanta in 1970 and also left behind compositions that employed techniques from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period. While the album features three excellent tracks with mysterious melodies evoking a somewhat primal and ritualistic atmosphere, including a clarinet solo, a flute duo, and a clarinet and flute duo, it's the string quartet composition included in B2 that stands out the most. This piece, centered around the high registers of the viola and cello, features delicate melodies that repeat in a minimalist fashion, making it a noteworthy experimental ambient/avant-garde tune.
