The 1985 debut album by Oblique, a unit formed by keyboardist Gerard Stokkink, creator of the Dutch experimental electronics gem Shusaku & Dormu Dance Theater/Music From, and drummer/percussionist Tommy Bachmann. This album primarily showcases a new-age, crossover jazz vibe infused with bright synthesizers. However, the abstract jazz track A2—where mysterious synth sounds blend with avant-garde percussion and floating marimba—is truly impressive. The mysterious yet beautifully textured new-age jazz pieces on B3 and B6 are also outstanding. Track B3 is an alternate version of a piece previously featured on Shusaku & Dormu Dance Theater/Music From. Highly recommended.
