Album release from the prestigious American label Nonesuch, known for preserving numerous historically valuable works ranging from ethnic music to contemporary music. Released in 1970 under the title <New American Music>, the album features compositions for contrabass by John Cage, Pauline Oliveros, and Ben Johnston. The performers include Bertram Turetzky (b), Nancy Turtzky (ft), and Ronald George (per). Cage's A1, composed in 1955, represents a period when he explored chance operations and indeterminacy. The piece features contrabass, organ, and voice randomly scattered, creating a very interesting composition. Oliveros's B1 is an improvisational piece boldly created in 1963. Johnston's B2 is a percussive and spatially dynamic sonic work with rolling sounds, showcasing a perspective on percussion in stereo space.
