Yuji Takahashi
Purcell’s Last Pieces
Columbia (Japan) 1975
OQ-7288-N (LP) w/obi, insert.
sleeve : EX-(some small and light spots.)
media : EX/EX(some slightly noises.)

This album was released in 1975 by Yuji Takahashi, a world-renowned composer and pianist along with Toshi Ichiyanagi and Toru Takemitsu, using the harpsichord piece "Suite No. 2 in G minor" composed by Henry Purcell, the greatest 17th century English composer, which consists of six dances. The work is a very ahead of its time reconstruction method, in which performances on clavichord, harpsichord, piano, celesta, electric piano, and electric organ are overdubbed and remixed. Who else but Yuji Takahashi could play 17th century music so experimentally? There is a 4-channel quadraphonic version that reflects the intentions of the time when the piece was created, but now that there is no playback environment available, this 2-channel stereo version is the best way to listen to it.
