Released in 1979 from the UNESCO Collection "Music of the World" series, this album features the music of the Akha Pygmies, an indigenous people of the Central African Republic. It was recorded locally in 1971 under a plan by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris, France. The Pygmies, who are believed to have inhabited the African continent since the earliest times, are a people with a culture of music that is closely related to their daily lives and full of originality. In this album, the music of the Pygmies, including play songs of young children, songs sung when the men go hunting, and calls to the spirits of their ancestors, is completely different from the music of the people living in the surrounding areas. Highly recommended.
