Kichou Takano is a blind koto player who has been performing his own compositions since the 1960s, not only in Japan but also overseas. He has received numerous awards for his achievements, including the Medal with Purple Ribbon and the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette. Kuniyama Yamamoto (shakuhachi), Teiko Kikuchi (17-stringed stringed instrument), Kohachiro Miyata (shakuhachi), and others participate. Inspired by touching Jomon earthenware pots with his own hands, he composed a trio for koto and shakuhachi, A1, using Okinawan scales and intonation, A2, a koto duet inspired by overseas culture and music, and A3, a duet for koto and shakuhachi based on a Hokuriku folk song, Yamanaka-bushi. The album includes not only classical pieces but also ensemble pieces with new melodies that are very expressive and full of fresh ideas.
