This album was released in 1983 by Japanese composer Minoru Miki, who is known as the musical director of the Nippon Music Group, a group that seeks new possibilities for Japanese music, both in Japan and abroad, in order to sublimate the classics into the modern age. This album was recorded live at the concert hall in Leipzig, Germany, where "Kyu no Kyoku", one of Miki's most famous symphonies, was premiered in 1981. Conducted by Kurt Masur and performed by the Japanese Music Group and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. It is a six-part symphony based on a three-wind orchestra and 16 Japanese classical instrumentalists. The composition and performance are worthy of being called a masterpiece, a sublimation of the fusion of Western music and Japanese music based on long years of research and practice of Japanese instruments.
