Edicao Brasileira was a lesser-known Brazilian jazz quartet consisting of Mauro Rodrigues (flute), Lincoln Cheib (drums), Ivan Correa (bass), and Bento Menzes (guitar), who released their one and only album in 1988. The album features guest participation by Nivaldo Ornelas. Track A1 delivers an incredibly pleasant piece of ethnic jazz, with finely detailed, wet-sounding percussion rhythms, a smoothly grooving bass line, and a gently floating flute ensemble. Track A4, meanwhile, offers a deeply atmospheric experience: the tension is kept low with a delicate rhythm section, while electric guitar—resembling a synth pad in its atmospheric touch—and organic flute melodies gently soak the space. It's a hidden gem of contemporary jazz with a highly sophisticated soundscape—something that wouldn't feel out of place on Germany’s prestigious independent jazz label ECM. The overall sound quality is consistently soft and mellow. It seems this album was reissued on CD in 2006, a testament to the discerning tastes of certain listeners. Still, this is the kind of music one would ideally want to experience on vinyl.
Please note that the outer sleeve is not in good condition.
