This album features a live recording from 1986 in Paris, France, by a trio consisting of guitarist Frédéric Sylvestre and bassist Jacques Vidal—both of whom were members of the Debarbat Dolphin Orchestra led by Jean-Pierre Debarbat in the late 1970s—and drummer Stéphane Huchard, who is also part of their group. In addition to original compositions by the members, the album includes an expressive trio performance of “So Tender,” which was famously recorded by Keith Jarrett’s trio with Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette on the classic album Standards, Vol. 2, as well as a rendition of the standard “Sweet Georgia Brown.” The original compositions in particular evoke a sense of floating and drive reminiscent of artists like John Abercrombie and Bill Frisell. Highly recommended.
