Debuting in 1967 with the beat rock band Los Shakers and later forming Opa in 1969, Hugo Fattoruso—Uruguay's iconic keyboardist and groove master—invited guest musicians such as Rubén Rada, Hermeto Pascoal, Airto Moreira, and Flora Purim, releasing works on the U.S. label Milestone. Beyond his home country of Uruguay, he was also active in Argentina, Brazil, and the United States, establishing a diverse international presence. This album, released in 1991 on the Brazilian label Som Da Gente, features Zeca Assumpção (bass), Ulisses Rocha (guitar), and Rubén Rada (percussion, vocals), among others. A masterpiece showcasing a wide-ranging performance rooted in jazz, it highlights Fattoruso’s dazzling keyboard skills—on par with the genius Hermeto Pascoal—particularly on tracks A4 and B3. Track B4, featuring Rada, elegantly blends Uruguay’s native candombe rhythm. Among the standout moments is track A6, where floating pad sounds, oriental melodies, and Uruguayan sentiment beautifully intersect. Original Brazilian pressing.
