John Surman is a British saxophonist who has played with John McLaughlin, Alan Skidmore, Michel Portal, and many other jazz musicians, and has also recorded a number of masterpieces under his own name. A duo album with ECM's well-known drummer Jack Dejohnette, this nine-track suite features the mournful melodies of John Surman's signature baritone saxophone and the minimalist synthesizers that are also a hallmark of his work. The refrain of A1 takes you on a deep inner trip, and the freaky session with Jack Dejohnette's aggressive drumming is also amazing.
