This is a 1980 album by the American trombonist Ray Anderson, who has also made notable contributions to groups like the Barry Altschul Trio and Slickaphonics. The album features a quartet with Anderson alongside his formidable peers: drummer/percussionist Gerry Hemingway, guitarist Allan Jaffe, who is also a member of Slickaphonics, and bassist Mark Dresser. The music on this album takes a unique and intriguing approach, blending elements of country/western with a twist of New Orleans jazz, creating a somewhat Western cowboy’s movie-inspired atmosphere. It has a quirky sensibility that bends and shapes the music in unexpected ways, reminiscent of the solo works of Lester Bowie from the Art Ensemble of Chicago, but with an even more unconventional touch. Listening to it is a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
