A 1970 leader album by Sadao Watanabe, one of Japan’s most distinguished jazz saxophonists. Recorded in New York in 1970, this superb session features a quartet with the ever-reliable ECM-associated lineup of Chick Corea (acoustic piano, electric piano), Miroslav Vitous (bass), and Jack DeJohnette (drums), with all compositions written by Watanabe himself. From the aggressive, high-speed exchanges of interplay heard on A1 and B1 to B2, where Watanabe boldly brings in Brazilian rhythms in a way that feels entirely his own, the chemistry with his three international counterparts is remarkable throughout, resulting in a truly excellent performance.

A1: Round Trip: Going and Coming
B2: Sao Paolo
