This is an album released in 1972 by American pianist Stanley Cowell, the founder of the renowned Black Jazz label, Strata-East. It features recordings made in 1969 with a stellar lineup of musicians including Woody Shaw (trumpet), Tyrone Washington (tenor saxophone, flute, clarinet, trombone, percussion), Bobby Hutcherson (vibraphone), Reggie Workman (bass), and Joe Chambers (drums). One of the standout tracks on this album is B1, characterized by its dynamic shifts and contrasts over a short span. It exemplifies Cowell's mastery of avant-garde spiritual jazz, blending aggression with elegance. This album is truly a masterpiece among masterpieces and comes highly recommended.
