Released on CTI in 1972, this album features Stanley Turrentine, the great tenor saxophonist who left behind numerous classic recordings including his Blue Note works, and whose bluesy tone also made a lasting mark on soul-jazz and jazz-funk. Here he is joined by Milt Jackson, with Bob James, Cornell Dupree, Ron Carter and Billy Cobham also taking part. From A1, composed by Lee Morgan, and the sweet, mellow A2, to A3 by Milt Jackson, the jazz-funk groove of B1 by Weldon Irvine, the deeply expressive reading of the standard title track B2, and the introspective afterglow of B3, the album offers beautifully balanced performances throughout. Turrentine’s clear, resonant tenor and Jackson’s soft, lyrical vibes intertwine with the supple groove of electric piano, guitar, bass and drums, creating a superb work where the fragrance of hard bop coexists naturally with a refined crossover sensibility. This is the limited edition released by King Records in 1978 as part of the CTI Original 1500 Series.
