An American drummer who rose to prominence in Dizzy Gillespie's group since the 1950s, Charles Pership, released a leader album from Bethlehem in 1961. This album features a septet including Marcus Belgrave (trumpet), Roland Alexander (tenor saxophone), Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), Ronald Mathews (piano), and Ron Carter (bass). Tracks like A1 and A2 offer delightful grooves that rush along swiftly, while B1 showcases the impressive soul jazz featuring the trumpet of the then-20-year-old Hubbard. Pership's Afro-primitive drumming takes center stage in this straight-ahead hard bop album. It's a reissue released in 1990 by Fresh Sound in Spain.
